Talulah Ruby
Born and raised in the Lava fields of Lanzarote, currently based in London. Talulah Ruby is a vocalist & writer who works with production and composition as a tool to explore different depths of sound and emotion. Focusing on releasing recorded music, developing expansive live shows and creating specialised pieces for film/collaborative projects.
Talulah was raised on an eclectic mix of sounds form Trip hop & Radiohead, to Fela Kuti & Batucada music from South America. Vocally, it was traditional soul that informed her tone, singers like Etta James and Aretha Franklin were a constant. She adopted a jazz sentiment from a young age, blending influences from Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday with instrumental artists such as Dave Brubeck & John Coltrane.
Having developed an appreciation for the freedom in electronic music & the vulnerability of folk writing in her teens, Talulah begins to translate her multitude of influence into her confidence as a songwriter and vocalist.
Her formative years as an artist were informed by her surroundings living in the UK. Writing and sharing the stage with what could easily be London’s most prolific instrumentalists. Her movements in the city have been natural and consistent.
Talulah writes from a place of honesty and produces with a sense of gravity. She invokes a feeling of peace while provoking her audience to deepen their introspection.
Talulah holds you captive not to stop you, but to start you.

TALULAH RUBY PRESENTS:
‘HYPERDRIVE’ EP AUGUST 11TH AUGUST
Through her careful selection of sounds, words & visuals, Talulah Ruby’s ‘Hyperdrive’, invites us into her vision with the intention of breaking the wall between creator and listener, as an ode to self-control and vulnerability.
‘Hyperdrive’, is a trip. Inciting us to experience “what the delicacy of travelling at hyper speed might feel like.” With its rhythmic hum of energy, “it ushers in an experience that you know is dangerous, but necessary if you want to get to your destination.”
The debut project propels Talulah on her true trajectory as not only a composer and singer, but also as a hands on producer and creative director.
With an emphasis on experimental analog based recording & mixing methods, Talulah Ruby produces a post-genre record. Pulling in contemporary references such as Mereba, Dev Hynes & Frank Ocean. All the while infusing elements of nostalgic singers such as Minnie Riperton & Joni Mitchell with electronic sentiments.
When alluding to the process, Talulah explains: “’Hyperdrive’ sets the tone for all the songs now pilled up on my hard drive. It comes from a place of true vulnerability. I was taking control of the wheel after having lost it. The themes come from a childhood appreciation for Star Wars and feeling a pull to embrace a 'Jedi' mindset during a turbulent time. It went through an extensive process of demo-ing with different co- producers until, through trust and collective generosity, I found my crew.“
The EP is meant to pause you amidst the movement & bring you back to your intentions. Bringing ultimate power back to the individual and encouraging focus on purpose. No small feat for an indie artist in today’s climate, but a challenge fit for a young Padawan from Tao, Lanzarote.
The Canary Island born, London based artist has continued her themes from her previous works surrounding mental health. Joining forces with Graphic Designer Edmund Lock she has created a limited run of merch pieces (now sold out).
These take the form of 20 thick hoodies with the Hyperdrive sentiment printed subtly on the front panel, and boldly on the back. The hoodie aims to bring empowerment to the ‘Unusually energetic’ or ‘Hyper’ minds that often are only celebrated when translated into creative work.
Talulah encourages each person who purchased a hoodie to see it as a protective layer amidst the chaos. Each label doubles as an access pass for events in the future, and is personalised with a note to each recipient from the artist. In this way, it becomes a collector’s item in the future.
‘HYPERDRIVE’ OUT FRIDAY 11TH AUGUST

LIVE REVIEW
“Overall the set was a delight to watch offering rich textured sounds married with experimental vocal modulation, manipulating volume and pitch throughout to create sounds that seemingly danced through the room. The set combined experimental electronic music with what can only be described as a sonic sensory experience that’s difficult to put your finger on, you’ll just have to go watch Talulah Ruby to experience it yourself.” - Lock Mag
